Last night at the 25th Preservation Achievement Awards Ceremony, the King’s Highway (Trust) Foundation was graciously given the Preservation Education Award for their work in spreading awareness to the vast history of Northeast Philadelphia. Their award-winning documentary film The King’s Highway of WHYY & Amazon fame, and featured on CBS recently for helping save the Lower Dublin Academy was the focal point of the award.

The ceremony was filled with over 20 recipients of various awards in historic preservation, reuse, activism, writing, and much more. “This is by far the largest gathering I’ve ever seen in the United States to honor those who support the preservation of our nation’s history.” said Samantha Meeks, President and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She spoke about how important the preservation of Philadelphia’s history is and how proud she was of everyone who attended the event.

“Receiving this award is one of my life’s greatest achievements.” said Jason Sherman, director of The King’s Highway and President of the The King’s Highway Foundation. “Along with other volunteers, we have simply been honoring the legacy of our forefathers by continuing to tell their story, while spreading awareness to the historic buildings that are left; and attempting to prevent them from being demolished.”

The event ended with a large buffet filled with a variety of incredible food and a live jazz band providing the soundtrack for the celebration.
